Educated at Burke Ward public school, Broken Hill; worked on Barrier Daily Truth as a youth and then as a miner; assistant secretary of Barrier District Miners' Federation; delegate to Barrier council for fifteen years; workers' representative at Broken Hill District Hospital Board; supporter of Royal Far West Children's Health Scheme.

Son of William Ernest Wattison, miner, and and Johanna Elizabeth Kahlisch. Married Winifred Ivy Williams on 2 June 1928 and had issue, 1 daughter and 2 sons. Methodist. Funeral at Palmdale crematorium at Ourimbah.
