Progressive; one of the 'true blues' who refused to enter the coalition in 1921, Country Party in 1925, councillor from 1934, 1956 until 1957.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Farmer and grazier. Educated at Tonbridge, England and St Peter's College in Adelaide; and Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. Orchardist in Clare, South Australia; established a wheat and wool property in Bethungra in Cootamundra district c.1906. Bred thoroughbred horses. Member of Farmers and Settlers Association' Association; Union and Australia Clubs.
Served in Australian Infantry Forces from 1916 until 1919, 17th, 27th and 20th Battalion, France, Sergeant.
Son of Hugh Main, fisherman, and Mary Fullarton Sim. Married Joan Helen Trethgarten at Sydney on 30 January 1923 and had issue, 2 daughters and 1 son. Presbyterian. Funeral at Cootamundra cemetery from the Presbyterian church.
