Qualifications, occupations and interests
Soap and candle manufacturer. He followed his father in the soap and candle manufacturing business. After his father's death in 1869, he became the principal of business which he ran in partnership with his brother Alfred until 1894 when he became sole proprietor.
Personal
Son of William Bell, soap and candle manufacturer and also a Member of Parliament, and Ruth Sayers Johnston. Married Edith Isabella Crew on 21 April 1868 and had issue, 5 daughters and 3 sons. Arrived in Sydney on the 'Brothers' with his parents, who were assisted immigrants, on 11 March 1841.
