Qualifications, occupations and interests
Lawyer (Barrister). Educated in Sydney. He was called to the New South Wales and Bar in 1864. In the same year, he was admitted to the Queensland Bar. In 1874, he practised as a barrister in Cooktown. He also practised in New Zealand and was admitted to the Bar in Victoria in 1883.

Son of Robert and Sarah May. Married Margaret Watson, a millionaire mine owner of Bendigo and had issue, 6 daughters. Church of England
