Qualifications, occupations and interests
Journalist. Educated at Marist Brother's College, Parramatta, St Joseph's College., Lochinvar; active in Workers' Educational Association; moved to Young in 1923, on staff of Young Daily Witness to 1934; director of Publicity and Development of Greater Newcastle Council 1934 - 1940; founder of New South Wales Country Rugby League 1934; trustee of Wyangala National Park 1941 - 1959. Member of Lachlan Valley Development League.
Military Service
Served in Australian Imperial Forces 1916 - 1919, 36th Battalion, France, gassed, lance-corporal. Lecturer in English with Australian Infantry Forces Educational Service. Served in Royal Australian Air Force 1939 - 1941. Secretary 9th Brigade Australian Infantry Forces Veterans' Association, organised and managed 3rd Division Australian Infantry Forces Remembrance Pilgrimage tour in 1968.
Honours Received
Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), French National Order of Merit.
Personal
Son of Richard Patrick Cahill, timbergetter, and Catherine Jarrett. Married Madeline Clare Manning on 21 April 1924 and had issue, 2 daughters and 1 son. Roman Catholic.
