Claimed endorsement by National and Country Party in 1919, joined Country Party in 1921, deputy leader in 1922, councillor in 1931 and 1933.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Writer and grazier. Family moved to New South Wales in 1882, settled near Walgett. Educated mostly on the station and had a short period in a private school at Bowenfels and the University of Sydney; worked on family station, began freelance journalism for the Walgett News, Bulletin and other journals. Settled at Aberdeen in the Upper Hunter c.1900, retained grazing interests at Walgett. Returned to Aberdeen, later became an orchardist at Terrigal; member of Farmers and Settlers' Association. Author.

Served in the Australian Infantry Forces from 1916 until 1918, Army Service Corps, driver, Discharged in England

Member of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. Member of the House of Representatives for Robertson 1913 until 1922.
Personal
Son of John King, station manager and Scottish migrant, and Helen Hastie. Married Caroline Benn in 1900 and had issue, 1 daughter and 2 sons. Presbyterian.
