Storekeeper and dairy farmer. Commenced working at an early age. Limited education attending parish and night schools. Apprenticed at 13 as a baker and confectioner. Arrived in New South Wales in 1857. Set up as a baker in Sydney. Expanded business into a general store 1860 until 1876. Acquired pastoral property. Visited United Kingdom in 1877. Bred cattle near Campbelltown. Trustee of Savings Bank of New South Wales. Royal Commissioner on water conservation 1885 until 1887. Member of Campbelltown School Board for 25 years. Member of Campbelltown School of Arts. Supported Federation from 1891. Orangeman. Temperance advocate.


Personal

Son of John Kidd, boot manufacturer and Elizabeth Souter. Married Sophie Collier in November 1860 at Aberdeen, and had issue, 2 daughters and 1 son. Presbyterian.
