Bred cattle near Campbelltown. Trustee of Savings Bank of New South Wales. Royal Commissioner on water conservation 1885 until 1887. Member of Campbelltown School Board for 25 years. Member of Campbelltown School of Arts. Supported Federation from 1891. Orangeman. Temperance advocate.

Personal

Son of John Kidd, boot manufacturer and Elizabeth Souter. Married Sophie Collier in November 1860 at Aberdeen, and had issue, 2 daughters and 1 son. Presbyterian.
