Storekeeper. Arrived in Sydney c.1859. Employed in Webb & Co's general store at Bathurst. Opened own store at Bathurst in 1867 as well as having stores in at Hill End, Trunkey and Carcoar. Went to Temora gold rush in 1881. Also traded at Barmedman, Wyalong, Forbes and Sydney. Firm known at John Meagher & Co. Active at Bathurst conference for Federation. Advocate of Temora Wyalong railway. Member of Australasian Catholic Congress of 1909; organised support for Home Rule; visited Ireland in 1914.
