Qualifications, occupations and interests
Schoolteacher. Spent early years at Wallsend. Became a teacher with Education Department in the city and country schools, in the Newcastle and Goulburn district from 1885 until 1901; Newcastle Agricultural Society; member of Hunter District Water Supply and Sewerage Board from 1906 until 1908.
Personal
Son of James Gilbert, carpenter, and Mary Kirk. Unmarried. Methodist. Buried in the Field of Mars cemetery.
