Postman. Educated at St Joseph's school, Rozelle; joined Postmaster General's Department in 1886; worked in Balmain post office until election to Parliament; founder of Letter Carriers' Union, later Postal Workers' Union; active member of Balmain United Friendly Societies.

Personal

Son of John Quirk, dairyman, and Margaret McClapperty. Married (1) Sarah Gaillie in 1889 at Sydney and had issue, 3 daughters and 2 sons. Married (2) Mary Lily in c.1927. Roman Catholic. Funeral at Field of Mars cemetery from St Joseph's Roman Catholic church in Rozelle.
