Qualifications, occupations and interests

Journalist and printer. Apprenticed as a compositor. Worked as a compositor and in a paper warehouse. Assisted to organise unions. Founded Democratic Alliance in 1884. Joined debating societies. Commissioner of Chicago Exposition in 1893. Founder of Sporting League in 1907. Author in 1894, 1897, 1904, 1905 and 1906; wrote two plays. Elected as Land and Industrial Alliance candidate; supported J.Robertson.


Local Government Activity

Alderman of the Sydney City Council for Cook Ward, 1 December 1906 - 25 April 1910. Member of the Works Committee 1907 - 1910; the Fruit and Vegetable Markets Special Committee 1907; the Finance Committee 1908 - 1909; the Health and By-Laws Committee 1908 and 1910; and the Street Signs Special Committee 1908.


Personal

Son of Peter O'Sullivan, ex soldier, and Mary Anne Burgoyne. Married Agnes Anne Firman in 1878 and had issue, 3 daughters and 2 sons. Roman Catholic. Funeral at Waverley cemetery from St Mary's Roman Catholic cathedral.
