Educated at Cooerwull Academy, Lithgow; member of pastoralist family owning Kinross, Billabong, Hillside, Clifton stations in Holbrook district, others near Inverell, Coleambally, Harden, Hay and Macquarie Fields; worked on Kinross; when Ross Brothers' partnership dissolved in 1913, became a manager for father; with brothers brought out father in 1921, lived on Kanimbla, part of the original Kinross station, from 1919; councillor at Albury Grammar School in 1929, Presbyterian Ladies College., Goulburn 1923 - 1924, Scots College., Sydney 1925 - 1931; member of Farmers and Settlers Association 1900; guest at coronation of Queen Elizabeth 11; member of Trusteeship committee of New South Wales Presbyterian church.

Councillor of Holbrook Shire 1921 - 1969, president eighteen times; representative on Southern Riverina County Council 28 years, chairman seven years; president of Shires' Association 1943 - 1944.

Son of John Ross, farmer and grazier, and Emily Jane White. Married Rita Bell Mitchell on 12 April 1919 and had issue, 4 daughters and 1 son. Funeral at Wagga Wagga crematorium from Knox Presbyterian church in Holbrook.
