The Hon. JOHN DELLA BOSCA: On 1 April the Hon. Dr Peter Wong asked the Treasurer, representing the Premier, a question without notice about the medicinal use of cannabis. The Premier and the Treasurer have asked me to respond to the honourable member's question on their behalf. I can now provide the House with the following answer:
The Government has been exploring a number of options with regard to medicinal cannabis. This is a complex medical, legal and constitutional issue which the Government has a responsibility to thoroughly examine. The Government is moving cautiously to provide regulated access to medicinal cannabis. It is consulting agencies within the government, including the Commonwealth Government, about this issue. The Government will be making further announcements concerning the medicinal use of cannabis in due course.
