The Hon. DON HARWIN: My question without notice is addressed to the Minister for Justice. Was the deputy governor of Goulburn Correctional Centre suspended and then redeployed into the south-west regional office because he erroneously allowed two inmates to be discharged from gaol early, which in the words of Senior Assistant Commissioner MacLean "caused great embarrassment to the department"? Why has this officer now, months later, been rostered into the position of regional superintendent, a position that represents a promotion? Why was this position not filled by merit selection instead of being given straight to an officer who had been subjected to a disciplinary investigation that questioned his competency?
The Hon. JOHN HATZISTERGOS: I am aware in general terms of this matter but I cannot recall the specifics of it. I will come back to the honourable member at the end of question time.
