ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY OF Mrs DOROTHY GIBSON
The Hon. D. F. MOPPETT [10.57]: I wish to acquaint members with the recent celebration of the 100th birthday of Mrs Dorothy Gibson of Nyngan. Nyngan is well-known, I am sure, to all honourable members for its tenacity in the face of adversity and its great faith in the future. We need to remind ourselves, however, that it is not the town that has the tenacity; it is the people who make up the community of Nyngan who display those wonderful characteristics. Dorothy Gibson has participated in all those community organisations that have made Nyngan a great town and epitomise country living. Dorothy is not well these days but she is attended in loving fashion by her husband, Wilf Gibson, who is lagging behind in that he has only attained 98 years. Wilf also is an inspiring

character to many people who know him, including me. He is recognised as the first member of the National Party to receive a long service medal, and on that occasion he was accompanied by Dorothy, who was very much a part of his public and, of course, private life. I am sure honourable members would like to join me in extending very best wishes to Dorothy. I hope that she has many happy returns of her birthday, if in fact it is wishful thinking that it might be many happy returns of her centenary. I extend to her congratulations and the gratitude of all the people in the west for the example she has given and continues to give.
The Hon. M. R. EGAN (Treasurer, Minister for Energy, Minister for State and Regional Development, Minister Assisting the Premier, and Vice-President of the Executive Council) [10.59]: On behalf of the Government I join the Hon. D. F. Moppett in wishing Mrs Dorothy Gibson a happy 100th birthday, and I thank the Hon. D. F. Moppett for bringing it to the attention of the House.
The PRESIDENT: I join the Leader of the Government in wishing Mrs Gibson a very happy 100th birthday.
Motion agreed to.
House adjourned at 11.00 p.m.
