WITNESS INDEMNITY

The Hon. M. R. EGAN: My question is directed to the Attorney General, and Leader of the Government. Did he sign an indemnity for a witness to give evidence in a minor drug case in October 1993? Was the indemnity for three acts of arson, heroin dealing and violent robbery? Did the judge state that the offences for which the indemnity was granted were overwhelmingly more serious than those before him?

The Hon. J. P. HANNAFORD: From time to time I sign indemnities. I do not know whether I signed an indemnity in relation to the matter referred to by the Leader of the Opposition, as he has not given me sufficient information about it. He could privately provide that information to me. If there is some aspect of the matter which is of concern to him, I will be happy to make inquiries and discuss it with him.
