Mr KNOWLES: Earlier today the Leader of the National Party asked me a question about the future of nuclear medicine services at Tamworth Base Hospital. I have been advised that that unit has not closed, nor is there any likelihood of that occurring. The nuclear medicine unit at Tamworth Base Hospital is staffed by two nuclear technicians. One of the technicians resigned around two months ago—so much for the Opposition's research—and the area health service has already commenced recruitment action. The second technician has sought two weeks leave for personal reasons, which has been granted by the New England Area Health Service. Unfortunately, that will mean that the service will be suspended for seven working days. However, during that time in-patients requiring urgent nuclear treatment will have the service provided at Newcastle. The suspension of the service for this time does not pose any risk to patient safety. The service will be operational once the technician has returned from leave on 22 November.
Questions without notice concluded.
