Exhibition - The Embroiderers' Guild NSW Inc, 'Reflections on a golden journey'
The Embroiderers' Guild started with a core group of women who established the Guild as a branch of the London Embroiderers’ Guild in Sydney in 1957. In 1971, the Guild became autonomous from the London Guild and in 1989, the Guild was officially incorporated. Today, this not-for-profit organisation has over 2,000 members, having in common the love of embroidery. The works in this exhibition comprise a selection of original textiles by Guild members, treated as works of art. The works are characterised by their self expression, creativity and originality. In our reflections on the last 50 years, we are looking at ourselves, how we stitch textiles, our origins, the importance of enjoying our collective and the importance of our companions on the journey.
This exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Embroiderers’ Guild New South Wales, showcasing a selection of contemporary works of original design representing a distillation of styles, techniques and life experience from the Guild‘s current membership.
The exhibition is supported by Ms Angela D'Amore MP, Member for Drummoyne.
