Children, Young People and the Built Environment (Inquiry)
This inquiry is a completed Parliamentary inquiry conducted by the Children and Young People Committee.
The inquiry is in accordance with the Committee's statutory functions under s.28(1) of the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998, in particular the following functions:
(b) to report to both Houses of Parliament, with such comments as it thinks fit, on any matter appertaining to the Commission or connected with the exercise of its functions to which, in the opinion of the Joint Committee, the attention of Parliament should be directed; and
(d) to examine the trends and changes in services and issues affecting children, and report to both Houses of Parliament any changes that the Joint Committee thinks desirable to the functions and procedures of the Commission.

Inquiry Terms of Reference
This inquiry was self-referred. Resolution passed 26 May 2005
That, for the purpose of performing its statutory functions under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 in relation to the Commission, the Committee is to inquire into:
1. trends, changes and issues for children and young people in the development, implementation and coordination of policy, design and planning for the built environment;
2. the mechanisms available for monitoring and reporting on planning processes and decisions concerning the built environment, as they relate to and impact upon children and young people;
3. strategies to ensure that built environment issues affecting children and young people are readily identified and receive coordinated attention across portfolios and different levels of government;
4. the role of the Commission for Children and Young People in giving input to the Government and non-Government sectors on inclusive and integrated planning and policy-making for children and young people in the built environment;
5. any other matter considered relevant to the inquiry by the Committee;
