An Act to amend the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 with respect to the constitution, functions and governance of Aboriginal Land Councils, the provision of community benefits by those Councils and investment by and business enterprises of those Councils; and for other purposes.

This explanatory note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament. Overview of Bill The object of this Bill is to amend the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (the Principal Act) as a result of a review of the Act as follows: (a) to enable the provision of, and provide a framework for the provision of, benefits to Aboriginal persons by Aboriginal Land Councils and to make provision relating to existing social housing schemes, (b) to provide a planning framework for the management and i...
