2806—Premier—CLEANERS AWARD WAGES

Ms Rhiannon to the Minister for Health, Minister for the Central Coast, and Vice President of the Executive Council representing the Premier, and Minister for the Arts—

    1. Did former premier Morris Iemma commit to ensuring all government agencies pay cleaners award wages?
    2. If so, does the Government stand by this commitment?
  1. Considering that that some government agencies arrange their own cleaning contracts and do not use the State Contracts Control Board, what strategy has been put in place to ensure that all cleaners employed by government agencies are paid award wages?

Answer—

  1. I am advised that the current State Contract Control Board Cleaning Contracts were established in 2005 by the Department of Commerce for Government agencies and that the Cleaning Contracts require that contractors comply with relevant legislation and awards.
  2. I am advised that the NSW Government's Code of Practice for Procurement details specific practice requirements that all parties must abide by.
