1732—Education and Training—SCHOOL LIBRARIANS

Dr Kaye to the Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for the Central Coast, and Minister Assisting the Minister for Finance—

  1. For the most recent year for which figures are available, what is the average number of students for each librarian, or teacher who has been provided training to act as school librarians, in:
    1. Public primary schools in New South Wales?
    2. Public secondary schools in New South Wales?
    3. Public comprehensive schools in New South Wales?

Answer—

Teaching staff in NSW government schools, including teacher librarians, are allocated in accordance with formulae based on student enrolments and special needs. These formulae have been established to distribute staff equitably across the State.
The allocation of students to all classes, including classes held in the library, is determined at the individual school level and is the responsibility of the school principal.
