2 PETITIONS

      Stray Dogs

      Mr Jones presented a petition from 44 citizens of New South Wales expressing concern at the use of stray dogs as research and teaching tools within science, and praying that the House request the Premier to ban the sending of stray dogs to laboratories within New South Wales.

      Petition received.

      Abortion

      Mrs Symonds presented a petition from 260 citizens of New South Wales expressing opposition to the Procurement of Miscarriage Limitation Bill and supporting the continued availability of, and a woman's right to choose abortion, and praying that the House support the existing abortion services in this State.

      Petition received.

      The President left the Chair and the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole.

7 CRIMINAL PROCEDURE (POLICE CUSTODY OF PROPERTY) AMENDMENT BILL

      The President reported the following Message from the Legislative Assembly:

      Mr PRESIDENT

      The Legislative Assembly having this day passed a Bill intituled "An Act to amend the Criminal Procedure Act 1986 with respect to police custody of property held in connection with an offence and to repeal section 358A of the Crimes Act 1900" presents the same to the Legislative Council for its concurrence.

      Bill, on motion of Mr Hannaford (on behalf of Mr Pickering), read a first time.

      Ordered: That the Bill be printed.

      Mr Hannaford moved, pursuant to Contingent Notice: That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would preclude the passing of the Bill through all its remaining stages during the present or any one sitting of the House.

      Question put and passed.

      Ordered: That the second reading of the Bill stand an Order of the Day for next sitting day.

8 ADJOURNMENT

      Mr Hannaford moved: That this House do now adjourn.
