Inaugural Speech

63.
      1. A motion may be moved without notice, amendment or debate for the business before the House to be interrupted at a specified time (but not so as to interrupt a Member speaking) to permit a Member to make an inaugural speech without a question being before the House. Any interrupted business shall be resumed on completion of the speech.
      2. The time limit for inaugural speeches will be 15 minutes with a 5 minute extension.

2012 PrecedentMotion agreed to that the business before the House be interrupted at 6.00 pm to permit the presentation of an inaugural speech by the Member for Clarence. Later in the day the member gave an inaugural speech and was also granted an extension of speaking time. 2011 Precedent1. A motion was agreed to that the business before the House be interrupted, after the conclusion of the joint sitting to fill vacancies in the Legislative Council, to permit the presentation of an inaugural speech by the member for Balmain. Later in the day the member gave an inaugural speech and was also granted an extension of speaking time. VP 24/05/2011, 100 2. 2008 Precedent1.Standing and sessional orders were suspended to permit the Leader of the House to move that the business before the House be interrupted at 6.00 pm to permit the presentation of inaugural speeches by the members for Lakemba and Port Macquarie.
