Description	Labour settlement areas were authorised by the Labour Settlements Act of 1893 and apparently were a means of cheap settlement and housing. These clippings relate mainly to the Pitt Town Labour Settlement Area but include other clippings and 'Government Gazette' notices relating to the subject. The sources are Sydney newspapers. There are also two loose files of clippings in relation to Federation (1897) enclosed at the back of the volume. It is possible that these clippings were collected for reference by the members of the Legislative Assembly Select Committee on the Pitt Town Labour Settlement (No. 30 of 1896), which made its Progress Report on 12 November 1896.
