Series PRS 0268.L, Correspondence - Main Series ("Letters and Invoices")
Date Range 01/04/1857 - 01/04/1923
Description The correspondence of the Library appears to have been somewhat disarrayed and re-arranged at various times in its life. The various series which now make up much of the nineteenth-century correspondence apparently were once a single series (PRS 267.L; PRS 268.L; PRS 269.L; PRS 270.L; PRS 304.L; and possibly PRS 293.L). They all relate to the same subjects and have similar contents. The Main Series is comprised of both letters to and from people and institutions, dealing with the internal administration of the Library and with its function of purchasing books. The Item List of this correspondence (attached) is detailed for the period from 1857 to 1888, and is less detailed for the ensuing period (1889 - 1923), which is registered in the series PRS 266.L, Registers of Correspondence, Books etc Received, 1889 - 1923 The successor series to this series is PRS 534.L, Parliamentary Library, Correspondence and Administrative Files, 1923 - 1986 CONTROL/RELATED RECORDS:PRS 267.L; PRS 269.L; PRS 270.L; PRS 304.L; PRS 293.L ; PRS 534.L
