    On 1 April the Hon. Dr Arthur Chesterfield-Evans asked the Treasurer, representing the Special Minister of State, a question without notice regarding public sector redundancies. The Special Minister of State provided the following response:

    (1) In his Mini-Budget speech on 6 April, the Treasurer reiterated the Government's commitment to retraining and redeployment for displaced staff. The Treasurer also restated the Government's policy, communicated in writing to the Labor Council prior to the last election that forced redundancies would only be used as "the last and unavoidable resort".

    (2) Yes.
