    ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES MINIMUM PRICING STANDARDS
Page: 3686

Reverend the Hon. Dr GORDON MOYES: I direct my question to the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, representing the Minister for Gaming and Racing. First, I thank the Minister for taking quick and decisive action on alcoholic milk products, an issue that I raised in this place some months ago. Is the Minister aware that canned, premixed vodka beverages are being sold by liquor retailers for $1 a can in some regional areas? Does the Minister agree that selling these vodka drinks at the cost of a packet of chewing gum makes alcoholic beverages attractive and affordable to children and encourages underage drinking? If the industry fails to self regulate minimum pricing standards, what action will the New South Wales Government take to ensure responsible consumption of alcohol through the establishment of minimum pricing standards on alcoholic beverages?

The Hon. IAN MACDONALD: I thank the honourable member for his question. I am not aware of the details, but I will convey the question to the responsible Minister for an early reply.
