THE HONOURABLE PHILIP RUDDOCK THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF ELECTION TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The Hon. HENRY TSANG (Parliamentary Secretary) [5.35 p.m.]: I congratulate the Hon. Philip Ruddock, Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, on his 30 years of service in the Commonwealth Parliament. Ethnic Australians recognise and appreciate the Hon. Philip Ruddock's commitment to multiculturalism and equal opportunity for all Australians. In 1973, when he was a backbencher, he crossed the floor when a vote was taken on equal opportunity legislation. Whenever I attend a function in my own capacity or as representing the Premier, I often run into Philip and his good wife, Heather. People of all backgrounds recognise that Philip Ruddock is a hard-working Minister. I congratulate Philip and Heather on their contribution to Australia and on serving people of all backgrounds.

    Motion agreed to.

    The House adjourned at 5.36 p.m. until Tuesday 14 October 2003 at 2. 30 p.m.
