VEHICLE WEIGHT LEVY

Mr ANDREW STONER: My question is directed to the Premier. How can the Premier possibly justify slugging regional families with a great big tax on driving to pay for—
The SPEAKER: Order! Government members will cease interjecting.
Mr ANDREW STONER: —her Sydney transport election scam, which will not ever happen and will not deliver a single bus, train or road upgrade for the three million people living in regional New South Wales?
Ms KRISTINA KENEALLY: The Metropolitan Transport Plan is a fully funded and affordable strategy, which was published in our budget paper and written into our State Infrastructure Strategy. This is an integrated plan for Sydney bringing land-use planning and transport planning together for the first time in one document. The Government is not raising public transport fares to pay for this plan, but it is introducing this small increment to the motor vehicle weight charge. No-one will pay more than an extra 60¢ a week for a car or 10¢ a week for a motorcycle. When we invest in Sydney's transport network, we invest in Sydney. Sydney is the engine room of the New South Wales economy.
The SPEAKER: Order! I call the member for Coffs Harbour to order for the second time.
Ms KRISTINA KENEALLY: As I was saying, Sydney is the engine room of the New South Wales economy and the engine room of the Australian economy. When we invest in public transport in Sydney we make it a more productive and affordable city.
The SPEAKER: Order! I call the member for Wakehurst to order for the second time.
Mr Brad Hazzard: I am trying to help you.
The SPEAKER: I realise that, but the member is on two calls to order.
Ms KRISTINA KENEALLY: The Government sees that investment as sensible.
