The use of victims' DNA (Inquiry)

This inquiry is a completed Legislative Council inquiry conducted by the Law and Justice Committee.   The Standing Committee on Law and Justice has accepted terms of reference to inquire into the use of DNA material belonging to victims of crime, with particular reference to the adequacy of current policies, procedures and practices to protect DNA material belonging to victims and whether further restrictions on the use of such DNA material would be appropriate or desirable.

The terms of reference for the inquiry were referred by the Attorney General, the Hon John Hatzistergos MLC.

The Committee held public hearings on 25 September and 30 October 2009.

The Committee tabled its report on 16 December 2009. The government response to the Committees report was received on 20 May 2010.
