Proposed amendments to the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 1988 (Inquiry)

This inquiry is a current Parliamentary inquiry conducted by the ICAC Committee.

The Committee on the Independent Commission Against Corruption, which is a joint statutory committee, is to inquire into and report on whether the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 1988 (ICAC Act) should be amended to remove the restriction in s 37 prohibiting the use of compulsorily obtained evidence provided under objection to the ICAC:

* in disciplinary proceedings; and
* in civil proceedings generally or specific classes of civil proceedings.

The Committee is also to inquire into and report on whether, if the abovementioned amendments were made, the ICAC Act should be further amended to make the ICAC's current function of assembling evidence for criminal proceedings a primary function.
