| Notes for the Chair | Adjournment of the House The Standing Orders provide for an automatic adjournment of the House each sitting day. On Tuesday the House adjourns at 7.45 pm or at the conclusion of the Matter of Public Importance if earlier. On Wednesday the House adjourns at 10.00 pm or at the conclusion of the Matter of Public Importance if earlier, and on Thursday the House adjourns at the conclusion of Private Members' Statements. On occasion the House may adjourn on the motion of a Minister. This may occur for example, when the House has resolved to sit beyond the time for automatic adjournment. The question on the adjournment cannot be debated or amended. If sitting days and hours have not been set, it is necessary for a Minister to move a motion which specifies a particular day and hour for the House to next meet. ADJOURNMENT OF THE HOUSE Speaker: “In accordance with the sessional orders, the House now stands adjourned until [time and date of next sitting day]” |
