The Hon. PATRICIA FORSYTHE: My question without notice is directed to the Minister for Local Government. Is the Minister aware of the Suttor merino stud at Hargraves, which has recently conducted pioneering development work on behalf of the wool industry to resolve the boycott of Australian wool due to mulesing? Is the Minister further aware that the State's future is under threat following a resolution from the Mid Western Regional Council to resume work on two public roads through the stud's land, despite the existence of a parallel public road that the council itself has failed to maintain over the past 40 years? Does the Minister recognise that such a resumption of work would irreparably compromise the ovine Johne's disease-free status of the stud, which is vital to its continued existence? Will the Minister make representations to the council about this proposal so that one of the State's prime merino studs is not put at risk?
The Hon. TONY KELLY: In answer to the first part of the Hon. Patricia Forsythe's question, no I am not aware. In answer to the second part of the question, I will make inquiries.
